Voting is now open for the 2016 Oticon Focus on People Awards on the Oticon website. Visitors to the website are invited to cast their vote for the 12 finalists who represent the “best of the best” from this year’s nominations in each of four categories: Student, Adult, Advocacy, and Practitioner.

According to Oticon, the finalists range from students who have accomplished much in a few short years to adults who use their unique talents to open up possibilities for others with hearing loss. There are passionate advocates who have logged hundreds of hours on behalf of hearing causes, and dedicated practitioners whose caring and commitment consistently go above and beyond. The Oticon Focus on People Awards is an opportunity to honor and celebrate these individuals.

The total number of votes received by each finalist will help to determine the first, second and third place winners in each category. Winners receive prizes and national recognition that helps to change attitudes that can create greater opportunities for all people with hearing loss.  “We encourage everyone to visit the Oticon website and meet some truly remarkable people who show that hearing loss does not limit a person’s ability to achieve, contribute and inspire,” said Senior Marketing Manager Nancy Palmere, who heads the awards program. “Our goal is to reach as many people as possible with the inspirational stories of our Oticon Focus on People Awards finalists.”

This is the 18th year that the Oticon Focus on People Awards has honored students and adults with hearing loss and advocacy volunteers whose accomplishments show that hearing loss does not limit a person’s ability to make a positive difference. By celebrating the achievements and contributions of people with hearing loss, Oticon aims to change outdated stereotypes that discourage people from seeking professional help for their hearing loss.

Voting is open now through August 15, 2016.  Winners will be announced on September 28, 2016.  To vote and to learn more about the Focus on People Awards, visit theOticon website.
