Oticon Medical Launches “Ponto Softband” for Bilateral Users.

Oticon Medical—a manufacturer of bone-anchored hearing systems and cochlear implants—announced it has introduced a new, pre-assembled version of the company’s Ponto Softband™ for bilateral users. With two, ready-mounted connector plates for the Ponto Sound Processor, the bilateral Ponto Softband is designed to ensure a stable fit and best audiological outcome for users, according to Oticon. Like the unilateral Softband, the new bilateral Softband is designed to be comfortable, flexible, and easy to wear. Made from soft, non-allergenic material, the Softband can be adjusted to fit snugly on different head sizes, even newborn babies. Oticon Medical reports that the Ponto Softband gives children and adults the opportunity to try out and experience the Ponto System, with no surgery involved.

For children with hearing loss, early support can mean the difference between hearing sound and learning language, or letting hearing loss stand in the way of development.

The Ponto Softband gives children and adults the opportunity to try out and experience the Ponto System — with no surgery.

With the Ponto Softband and a Ponto sound processor, children have early access to speech and sounds so they can explore and interact with the world around them. This gives them a great foundation for speech development. The Ponto Softband solution is suitable for children with conductive/mixed hearing loss and single-sided deafness. It can also be used by adults who don’t benefit from conventional hearing aids, or those who have temporary ear problems such as blockages or infections.

The adjustable Ponto Softband is simply worn around the head. When you attach the Ponto sound processor, it sends sound waves through the bone and on to the inner ear. This gives you access to the renowned, high-quality Ponto sound.

“We want to make it simple and easy for all Ponto Softband wearers to have access to the renowned, high-quality Ponto sound,” said Alan Raffauf, vice president of marketing, Oticon Medical. “The new bilateral Ponto Softband is pre-assembled with two metal spring couplings that keep the Ponto Sound Processor in the correct position for the best audiological outcome. An integrated soft adjustment function for each coupling ensures a secure, close fit. Each coupling also includes a safety release that opens if the Softband gets caught.”

Available in 14 colors, the Ponto Softband in unilateral and bilateral versions features a design that is designed to withstand the wear and tear of daily life. The Ponto SoundConnector™ for mounting on caps or other headgear is included with both unilateral and bilateral versions and can also be ordered as a single item.
