Ear Gear Partners with Audiologist on Kenya Mission Trip

Ear Gear—a company that manufacturers hearing instrument protection devices—recently partnered with Stephanie Sanders, pediatric audiologist, by donating 100 pairs of Ear Gear to her Kenyan mission trip, Ear Gear announced. Her team’s focus was pediatric and adult otolaryngology, plastics, and general surgery cases at theBrase Clinic and Vision Center.

As the only audiologist, Sanders also took on the task of working with children and staff at Marindi Children’s Home of Grace as well as teaching and educating those who volunteer and work in the clinic.

Africa’s climate ranges from dry, windy, and dusty, to heavy rain. Once fitted, patients required the added protection against sweat, dirt, moisture, loss, and wind noise.

Some of the young people helped included Frederick, who lives in an orphanage and was identified with bilateral hearing loss. He studies a lot but also enjoys playing outside. With new earmolds and bright blue corded Ear Gear, he was excited to show them off. Fredrick removes his hearing aids while playing sports but can now play soccer outside without worrying about loss and can hear his friends during the game. Certainly a very happy new beneficiary of his Ear Gear.

Boaz, another young happy recipient is a 22-year-old who has had hearing loss since 2008 and has never been able to afford hearing aids. He works in dusty areas under the hot sun which results in sweating. Quiet during the appointment, Ear Gear reports that he had a huge smile afterwards, thankful for everything and thrilled that the donated Ear Gear will allow him to wear his hearing aids at work.

Audiology resources are limited in Kenya, therefore, keeping hearing instruments functioning and safe from loss are crucial. Honored to work with Sanders, Ear Gear is delighted that so many new hearing instruments are protected against Kenya’s climate, damage, and loss.

A bit more about the Ear Gear product.

Infants, toddlers, and school-age children: gives worried parents peace of mind from hearing aid loss and breakdowns due to sweat, dirt and dropping the hearing instruments on the playground or gym floor.

Adults: used for dirty, dusty, or wet work environments such as working in the garden, mowing the lawn, or during any sort of sporting or outdoor activity; running, biking, hiking, fishing or canoeing. Ear Gear significantly reduces wind noise as well.

Seniors: gives them peace of mind as they always can locate their hearing instruments. Ear Gear is a must for any resident of a nursing home who fears hearing aid loss.

Ear Gear is perfect for anyone who has an active lifestyle or who wants protection against sweat, dirt, moisture, wind noise and hearing aid loss.

    How Ear Gear was Born!
The inventor decided there had to be some way to keep hearing aids secure and safe. After giving the problem a fair bit of thought, He came up with the idea of a colorful pair of spandex sleeves that would cover the hearing aids and essentially lock them in place.

The sleeves would be attached to a cord and a clip. Now, if someone took off their hearing aids they would hang safely with the added bonus of difficulty in removing the hearing aids from the sleeves. In a nutshell, this new product keeps hearing aids more secure. They also look fun and reduced chafing on the ears.

The inventors daughter, a child with hearing loss, who wears hearing aids loved them! The family audiologist loved them and felt they were a valuable hearing aid accessory that others could use! Thus… EAR GEAR was born!
